Safety processes for a first-of-its-kind autonomous electric hauler

Safety processes for a first-of-its-kind autonomous electric hauler

Client & context

The Volvo CE TA15 is a fully electric, cab-less autonomous hauler — part of the Red Dot Award-winning TARA transport solution. It operates in confined off-highway sites, where the automotive and machinery safety worlds meet.

The problem

A first-of-its-kind fully electric, autonomous transport system needed functional safety processes built from the ground up — spanning both ISO 26262 (road-vehicle E/E safety) and ISO 13849 (machinery control systems), two frameworks with different logics that had to produce one coherent safety argument.

What I did

The outcome

A working functional safety process bridging ISO 26262 and ISO 13849 for autonomous off-highway machines, with approved safety plans, analyses, and compliance files — and a team trained to carry it forward.
